when I was fishing for my uncle on lake of the woods the bigiest walleyes were om a reef on the west sid of garden island. when we cut them open they had large yellos cradads in their bellies. The same island was the center for the aniliation of the sturgen in the late eighteen hundreds, there is a news story about this
Garden Island is close to the Minnesota-Ontario border that runs across the water on Lake of the Woods. Those yellow crawdads must have been rusty crayfish, an invasive that started showing up in the early 1960s in Lake of the Woods on the Ontario side. DNR has found them near Garden Island in the last decade or so.
