If the Geek Squad are engaged so long that you have time for a novel while steam comes out their ears, Tommy Orange’s _There, There_ mentions the “Indian head test pattern” fairly early on. I’m impressed you found it! Wishing you a minimum of hassle.
Thank you Tara for your good wishes. Nothing worse than being on the road and running into computer hassles. Grateful to the Geek Squad and am back online at last. I loved THERE, THERE and even more WANDERING STARS by Tommy Orange. The time away from my laptop let me enjoy FIRE EXIT, the new novel by Morgan Talty. And I am certain I spent nearly every Saturday morning as a kid staring at the Indian head test pattern waiting for the 6 am start to the cartoon shows starting with Fractured Fairytales, my favorite.
Saturday cartoons made early risers of us before streaming on demand! 😅 I bought Wandering Stars and have it on my shelf but haven’t got to it yet. I’m glad to hear you liked it even better. Percival Everett’s James was my summer knockout. I suppose I’m giving space between two potentially great books.
Glad you got up and running again, but a little forced offline time isn’t a wholly sad thing, in my book. :-)

Knockout for this year is JAMES by Percival Everett. So many good books yet on my summer stockpile. Wished they'd kept my laptop a bit longer.
🤣 Next time I have a tech breakdown, I'll remember right away: Yes! A true reading opportunity. Hit the book pile.
Hmm I sense a mention on how the Ojibwa never had to put up with such things and no doubt lead to greater happiness 😎
